The YMCA has always had a Financial Assistance program for membership and programs. Because the YMCA is community-based and believes that it should be available to everyone, we also offer the Open Doors Program. This program offers an income-based fee scale that is designed to fit the financial situation of each individual and family in our community. We want all people to be involved with programs and services of the YMCA that nurture the spirit, mind, and body - especially during life's difficult times.
Who does the Open Doors Program seek to serve?
Our Open Doors Program serves the entire community.
We most frequently assist:
| > Senior citizens and active older adults > Single-parent families > Families with limited income > Youth > Adults (and their families) who are temporarily out of work > Adults on fixed income |
How much assistance will be provided?
The income-based rate scale is designed for household incomes below $50,000.We want to help as many people as possible with our limited resources and the YMCA believes that a strong sense of
ownership and pride is developed if the recipient has contributed to the cost of their YMCA involvement. Memberships that are created through the Open Doors Program are subsidized by the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. Many generous donors (and even recipients of the program) contribute annually so that we can keep our doors open for all.
How do I get assistance?
1. Contact the South Bay Family YMCA at (619) 421-8805.
2. Provide verification of income. We will need this to review one of the following information so the amount of assistance can be determined:
| > A copy of your most recent tax return > A copy of social security/disability checks (or blank statement showing automatic deposit amount) or a copy of your last two pay stubs. > Documentation of any federal assistance like AFDC, rent subsidy, Unemployment, and/or disability. |
3. Complete the simple membership application.
How long will assistance continue?
Assistance is provided for a specific time period and will be reviewed annually.
Why does the YMCA request financial information?
With information on income, we can award assistance in a fair and consistent manner. This process is used to ensure that everyone receives equal consideration and so that the YMCA is able to serve as many individuals as possible.
Who will see the financial information?
Personal financial information is handled in a confidential manner and will be seen and reviewed for validation and only by the YMCA professional staff. No information is shared with any other agency or organization.
Who furnishes the funds for the Open Doors Program?
These funds come from donations made possible through the generosity of our members and donors in the Strong Kids annual fund raising campaign. Funds raised through our Strong Kids Campaign go directly to help provide assistance through our Open Doors Program each year.
