Preschool | Ages 3 - 5YMCAs have been teaching people to swim for more than a century. The YMCA Aquatics program teaches children and adults, of all ages and abilities, the skills they need to be safe in and around the water.
This class is for children who are non-swimmers with no experience in the water. Children in this stage will be introduced to submerging independently, gliding on front and back, and exiting the water. Swim, float, swim will be introduced at a length of ten feet.
This is an intermediate-level class that focuses on independent swimming and proper movement in the water. Children in this stage will learn side breathing at the wall, front and back glide independently, tread water, and swim float swim for 5 yards.
This is an intermediate/advanced class that focuses on building endurance and beginning to refine basic movements. Students will swim in front and back for 15 yards, tread water for one minute, and swim float swim for 25 yards.
This is an advanced class where children will start focusing on strokes and endurance. Children will learn freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and diving. They will also continue practice with treading water, side breathing and elementary backstroke.
